Quick and simple spicy cumin lamb skewers, served with a cooling mint yogurt raita and warmed naan bread. The combination of the spiced lamb and vegetables with the yogurt makes a super tasty summer dish that everyone will love. Whether you make these skewers on the BBQ or in the oven, they are packed with deliciousness!
I’ve been wanting to make these ever since I had cumin lamb at my favourite dumpling place. The flavour is so intense and amazing, I just knew I had to try and recreate it. These skewers are a bit of a different vibe, with the addition of the vegetables and raita. More meditterranean I guess?
I was also reminded of how great lamb is! I don’t usually cook with it much but I’m definitely going to start. It’s actually such a flavourful meat. I’m thinking next I’ll do some kind of lamb slow-cooker curry, so look forward to that!
So how do we make these spicy cumin lamb skewers? Well it’s actually so easy.
First cut the lamb and vegetables so they are all about the same sized chunks. Toss in a large bowl with olive oil, minced garlic, cumin and salt and pepper. Be generous with the cumin! For the skewers I use stainless steel. I like that they are re-usable and easy to clean. If you go for bamboo be sure to soak them in some water first. Now assemble the skewers and place on a wire rack over an oven tray to catch all the juices. Set the oven to grill, and cook for about 20 minutes, flipping half way. They would also be amazing on the BBQ if that’s more your style!
The mint raita is the perfect accompaniment. We all know lamb and mint are a winning combo, and this recipe is no exception. While your skewers are cooking to perfection, it’s a good time to make it. In a small bowl stir together greek yogurt, minced garlic, grated cucumber, fresh mint and salt and pepper. Now you have a delicious, cooling and refreshing sauce for your lamb!
All that’s left to do is heat up some naan bread and you’re ready to serve!
