If a doughnut could warm your soul it would be this one. Celebrating spring and into summer with these Chai Spiced Baked Doughnuts with Caramel Glaze. Made with a bunch of pantry staples, plus heaps of delicious chai spices. Then they’re baked, dunked and coated generously in sweet and warming caramel glaze. There’s really nothing not to love about these cute (and just perfectly sweet) doughnuts. These easy-baked doughnuts are so good to enjoy any time of day, breakfast or dessert!
When I think of comforting flavours my mind immediately goes to chai. I don’t drink coffee so chai lattes are my go-to hot drink. I’ve been wanting to incorporate the flavours into something for ages, and today when I had a craving for doughnuts I thought – now’s my chance! So here we are… and I’m so glad we made it.
The details:
The batter is really easy. You need butter, milk, yogurt, an egg, sugar, vanilla, and then all your basic dry ingredients as well as the classic chai spices of cinnamon, allspice, ginger and cardamom. All in one bowl, simple!
Mix the wet with the dry, then spoon the batter into a large zip-lock bag ready for piping into the doughnut pan. If you don’t have a doughnut pan, they also make great mini muffins… kind of like doughnut holes! This recipe usually has a bit of batter leftover so I make holes with the rest.
Whatever you choose, they both work the same, but make sure you really grease the pan before adding the batter. This is a pretty sticky batter so greasing the pan is essential.
Bake for ten minutes, then run a knife around the edge to release them.
Finish off with that sweet and rich caramel glaze
This glaze is so easy you’ll be making it with everything. Simply simmer butter with brown sugar and milk on the stove for a minute before adding some vanilla extract and giving everything a good stir. That’s it. Let cool for a bit before dipping the doughnuts. Make sure each one is generously coated, this stuff is good.
Each little doughnut is so delicious and since these are not fried, you know they’re slightly healthier than the alternative!
